Guidance Philosophy

Elementary School Guidance Counselors provide a wide range of services to the school community.  We are committed to making a difference and to providing opportunities to all students to help them become lifelong learners.  Additionally, Guidance Counselors believe in the worth of all students and are dedicated to advocating for students in the educational setting.  Guidance Counselors promote a safe learning environment that is based on prevention and intervention.

Elementary School Guidance

Council Rock School District promotes the model of developmental guidance.  In the developmental guidance model, the Elementary School Counselor's role is to guide students in acquiring the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that contribute to effective learning in school and across the lifespan.  The counselors will help students develop and apply skills needed to enhance personal, social, career, and academic growth.  These areas are in alignment with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) national standards.

Primary Services

The school guidance and counseling program is a combination of four types of primary services:  curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support.  Below are listed the primary services offered by the Elementary Guidance Counselor:

- implement effective classroom lessons focusing on relevant topics

-provide individual and small group guidance

-consult with teachers, administrators, and parents

-coordinate appropriate referrals to outside services within the school and community
